5th Annual East County Homeownership Fair
For homeowners and homebuyers alike, the recent 5th Annual East County Homeownership Fair brought hope for residents in the form of seminars, one-on-one counseling, and even advice on programs available for first-time homebuyers.
The event was sponsored by U.S. Bank, and presented by El Cajon Community Development Corporation, the City of El Cajon Redevelopment Agency, and Housing Opportunities Collaborative on Saturday, January 16 in the Ronald Reagan Community Center.
To illustrate the increased interest in this annual program, Housing Opportunities Collaborative reported 60 pre-registered attendees for this event in 2008, compared with over 140 attendees this year – all seeking free financial sessions with pro bono attorneys from San Diego Bar Association and other experts. Visitors who were interested in learning more about home buying programs were able to attend any of the nine complimentary seminars on topics ranging from financial literacy to credit management to available financing programs.
In addition to all other services offered by the East County Homeownership Fair, resources were also made available by event exhibitors from many home-related sectors, including real estate, lending, home improvement, foreclosure prevention, tax, and community agencies. Bank of America was also a presenting partner for the Kids Savings Safari, a safe and fun area for children to learn about money management while parents attended the sessions.
Congratulations to raffle prize winners Helene Rubinoff of Rancho Santa Fe and Jane Babraitis of El Cajon, attendees who were drawn from among the many who paid a visit to every exhibitor and completed a survey for the El Cajon CDC.
The El Cajon CDC would like to thank our partners noted above, as well as our
presenting partners from Bank of America, Union Bank of California, and Cox Communications. Additional success was achieved with the support of our regional partners from the San Diego Housing Federation, LISC San Diego, International Rescue Committee, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, East County Regional Chamber of Commerce and Rancho San Diego-Jamul Chamber of Commerce. Event support was also provided by Quizno’s, Sprouts Farmers Market, Costco, and Sycuan Resort & Casino, as well as our many dedicated volunteers.
