Volunteers hard at work

Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers represent Downtown El Cajon, from youth groups to business owners. In order to create a satisfying volunteer experience, we take a skills-based approach when placing volunteers. We recognize that everyone has something to give and encourage anyone interested in serving the community to stop b ythe El Cajon CDC office at 168 East Main Street and pick up a volunteer packet. This packet will help you to learn more about the El Cajon CDC and it's programs as well as fill out a volunteer application. We hope to see you soon!

Volunteers generally fit into one of three categories: Administrative, Event, or Committee.

  • Administrative volunteers are accepted year-round and are called upon on an as-needed basis. Duties include answering phones, filing, making phone calls to update records, preparing binders/packets, helping with mailings, and assisting with special projects. Previous experience is not required, but volunteers must be available during office hours (Monday - Friday 8:30am – 5:00 pm).
  • Event volunteers work at Alley Cat Art Walk, A Toast to Music, Cajon Classic Cruise, and/or Concerts on the Green assisting with set up/tear down, raffle sales, distribution of flyers or other event-related activities as directed. Our events take place in the summer months - keep informed by reading our weekly e-newsletter (click here to sign up) for the latest openings and updates! Volunteers of all ages may also sign up for monthly neighborhood clean-ups through our Lend A Hand program. Saturday Morning Clean-ups take place in Downtown El Cajon neighborhoods on the last Saturday of every month from 9:00 – 11:00 am. Click here to find the next location or contact Christina Burke, Community Development Coordinator, at (619) 401-8858 to RSVP.
  • Committee volunteers help steer our programs by attending monthly meetings and using their expertise to drive the revitalization of Downtown El Cajon. If you have experience and the desire to help Downtown El Cajon prosper, serving on a committee could be a great fit for you!
